Don't Touch My Hair

This collage is centred on black womanhood and the significance of our hair to our identity. We are not animals to be petted, we are not ‘exotic’, don’t touch our hair as if to turn us into a spectacle. Our hair is not your spectacle, in the words of Solange black hairstyling is ‘an act of beauty’ its own art form. We want to show up and have our hair accepted not to be told what it might not be ‘straight’, ‘long’ etc. So don’t touch our hair unless we let you!
